Gold Creek Falls, Golden Ears Provincial Park, Jan 23, 2011

Not knowing how long it would take to get to the park and with the Lower Mainland's unpredictable traffic, we left Vancouver for Golden Ears Provincial Park at about 10am to hike the Gold Creek Falls trail. It didn't take nearly as long as I thought it would and before we knew it, we were passing the parking lot access for Alouette Lake. We had to make a couple of stops at information boards to find the right lot, but what felt like no time, we were parked and making our way to the trail head.

The biggest difference I noticed with this trail compared to other "easy" trails were the amount of boulders scattered through the woods. It was visual treat to see these massive hunks of rock dotted through the woods, moss covered and silent. Moss covered almost everything and remnants of ancient trees were found randomly along the trail's edge.

After about 30-45 minutes of walking, we came to the falls. In a way, the falls were coming to us as well, casting off a thick mist of water that saturated the air and anything close by. Of course, the lookout just wasn't good enough, so we carefully ventured out onto the rocks for our photographs. As our cameras became increasingly wet, we decided we had spent enough time and strolled back to the car we feelings of great fulfillment.
